Study of the myths of western antiquity, as represented in ancient Greek and Latin texts and images.

Learning Outcomes

1Have a detailed grasp of the principal characters, narratives, and themes of Greek mythology;

2Be able to appreciate the many functions of myths within ancient Greek society, namely to explain natural events, support religious practices, and underwrite social and political power; and

3Be able to identify modern myths and appreciate the role they continue to play within all societies.
