This class is designed for learning more about the collection and identification of adult insects. Emphasis will be placed on collection and sampling techniques, the preparation of specimens for future study, and identification.

Learning Outcomes

1Use keys and other published resources to identify unknown insects to the correct family and by-sight identification.

2Collect a diversity of insects and related arthropods and to prepare specimens to professional standards.

3State the scientific names, critical taxonomic characters, natural history and biology, unique or interesting behaviors, ecological role, taxonomic relationships and impacts on human activities of selected families.
