Spring 2025 Laboratory Distance Learning Lecture Lower Division
Elements and principles of floral design, as well as the identification, culture, and propagation of indoor plants. Topics in the art of floral design from both the florist's and the consumer's perspective, as well as information on growing houseplants. A variety of creative, hands-on lab projects include fresh flowers and foliage, silk, and dried materials.
Learning Outcomes1Recognize and use the elements and principles of design as they apply to the art of arranging flowers.
2Develop the skills necessary to create floral designs.
3Correctly select and use flowers, containers, and color harmonies.
4Properly condition cut flowers and greens for use in everyday flower arrangements.
5Identify indoor foliage plants and flowers and problems of interior plants.
6Better understand the factors involved in growing and maintaining plants.
7Know the cultural requirements of 30 popular interior plants.
8Properly manage interior plants and floral arrangements.
9Properly evaluate floral designs used for decorating and gift giving.
10Receive greater enjoyment from plants and flowers and increased awareness of their design qualities.
