Fall 2026 Laboratory Lecture Distance Learning Lower DivisionThis course provides experience in the development of model-based product definition to support Industry 4.0 in the smart manufacturing enterprise through digital thread. Students will focus on using digital engineering methods and tools, and the application of ASME and ISO standards, to create machine-readable information and to support data interoperability. Digital twin methodology and long-term product data archival concepts are also covered.
Learning Outcomes1Describe the elements and processes of 3D model-based definition to support Industry
20 and beyond.
3Develop digital engineering data which supports smart manufacturing.
4Apply ASME and ISO standard data formats to support the digital data thread in a manufacturing enterprise.
5Develop basic literacy in comparing human-readable and machine-readable data formats.
6Incorporate relevant design and process documentation standards into course assignments and projects.
