Fall 2026 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionThe purpose of this course is to provide students with a working understanding of the conceptual framework of behavior analysis and the underlying theoretical and philosophical foundation of behavior analysis. The course will provide advanced coverage of the history, philosophical underpinnings, and advanced concepts and principles of behaviorism and behavior analysis. Permission of instructor required.
Learning Outcomes1Identify and evaluate the goals of behavior analysis as a natural science.
2Compare and contrast respondent and operant conditioning and develop behavioral protocols from case study scenarios. Identify historical influences of the field of Psychology on radical behaviorism.
3Explain and apply the philosophical assumptions of behavior analysis (selectionism, determinism, empiricism, parsimony, pragmatism, philosophical doubt, replication, experimentation).
4Differentiate and classify the branches of behavior analysis (behaviorism, experimental analysis of behavior, applied behavior analysis, professional practice).
5Analyze and interpret behavior from the perspective of radical behaviorism.
6Distinguish and apply the dimensions of applied behavior analysis.
7Evaluate and apply rule-governed and contingency-shaped behavior in practice.
8Integrate conceptual and philosophical knowledge into clinical applications of applied behavior analysis.
