Fall 2026 LectureThis course is critical for the success of first-year health and kinesiology graduate students. The course is designed to socialize students into the worlds of science, graduate education, and health and kinesiology research and practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the responsible conduct of research, shared and unique expectations of graduate students and mentors across various health and kinesiology subdisciplines, professional development, and the nurturing of academic community. Prerequisite: Incoming graduate students in the Department of Health and Kinesiology qualify for and are required to complete this course. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes1Develop an appreciation for philosophical and scientific issues of relevance to all health and kinesiology scholars.
2Develop an understanding of successful and less successful approaches to graduate education, department citizenship, pursuit of scholarly endeavors, and professional development.
3Develop an understanding of how to obtain effective mentoring.
4Become an active member of the HK intellectual and professional community.
