Fall 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThe facility is the largest asset for most hospitality operations and profoundly impacts guest experience. How it is designed and managed can be the difference between operational success and failure. The primary goal of this course is to foster student understanding of facility design and physical plant maintenance. Students will learn standard language and concepts along with problem-solving and project management techniques to enable cost-effective decisions in creating a physical environment that maximizes the guest experience.
Learning Outcomes1Explain how systems within a facility function and are maintained in a cost-effective, environmentally friendly manner that meets regulatory requirements and promotes a welcoming, safe environment for employees and guests.
2Analyze a wide range of facility design and physical plant problems and improvement opportunities to develop cost-effective solutions using systematic problem-solving techniques.
3Apply standard project management tools and techniques to design a hospitality facility space, including physical plant elements, that promotes a positive guest experience that is ergonomically friendly to guests and employees.
