Fall 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course applies value engineering principles and life cycle costs to the built environment with particular focus on the effect of the decisions made in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the built environment on the quality and cost.
Learning Outcomes1Synthesize and articulate the core principles of life cycle cost and apply engineering economics principles to calculate costs.
2Synthesize and articulate the core principles of functional analysis of systems and techniques (FAST) methodology.
3Conduct analysis of systems, articulate client needs and problems, define problem statements, compare design alternatives, and suggest solutions that address the issues in the problem statement.
4Develop weighting criteria for decision making to meet problem statement and demonstrate advantages of proposed solution in comparison with initial design.
