Summer 2026 Distance Learning Lower DivisionCourse about beer and brewing and its role as a cultural product in shaping the identity of regional areas in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and its influence on science, religion, economics, politics, and history. The course will give students an overview of the relationship between beer and brewing to other disciplines, allowing them to connect the topics covered to their own fields of study. Conducted in English.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate an understanding of the central importance of beer and brewing in German-speaking culture and its relation to other fields of study.
2Examine the representation of beer in German texts (in English) and other forms of art.
3Analyze how beer and brewing contribute to the creation of national identities.
