Spring 2026 Lecture Lower DivisionThis course is based on the theoretical ideas that informed the creation and development of America's political system, as well as some of the significant contemporary challenges to maintaining a maturing liberal democracy. It is designed to help students better understand the foundations of the American civic traditions, including the role of eighteenth-century Enlightenment thought and natural rights philosophy in the founding, and the role of the Constitution in structuring U.S. politics, its interpretations, and historical development.
