Spring 2026 LectureThis course is designed to enhance the PharmD P-1 student's professional skills, career exploration and prepare for internships, post-graduation employment or continuing education plans. It provides academic content to link experiences in professional fields to study in pharmacy as well as social, economic and intellectual attitudes that shape views and work experiences. It also introduces Professional Identity Formation (PIF), which is defined as "a complex and transformational process of internalizing a profession's core knowledge, skills, values and beliefs, resulting in an individual "thinking, acting and feeling" like a member of that professional community." (AACP) The course will build the student's professional skills and attitudes, with activities and experiences, intended to advance professional, personal, and career development. The topics and activities are purposely designed and implemented to ensure an array of opportunities for students to document competency of advocacy, self-awareness, leadership, and professionalism.
Learning Outcomes1Prepare for a transition to a professional career setting after graduation through self-reflection, self-assessment of performance, and goal setting, while learning tools and strategies to navigate personal and professional values and interests.
2Understand the importance of on-the-job training and experiential opportunities; and learn how to develop and cultivate professional skills and relationships.
3Articulate professional expectations and learn how to navigate ethical issues involved with being a professional.
4Identify personal leadership traits and skills while understanding multiple leadership and communication styles.
5Identify career interests or goals and understand the pathways to different careers in pharmacy.
