Spring 2026 Distance Learning Upper DivisionThis course introduces students to the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity, providing an in-depth understanding of how AI technologies are revolutionizing the field. Topics include the application of machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and deep learning to enhance cybersecurity practices, including threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management.
Learning Outcomes1Identify and explain the roles of AI and ML in modern cybersecurity: Understand how AI and machine learning contribute to cybersecurity, including their use in threat detection, risk assessment, and automated responses.
2Apply machine learning techniques to detect and prevent cyber threats: Utilize machine learning algorithms to identify and mitigate cyber risks, including anomaly detection and predictive modeling for cyber attacks.
3Analyze the use of deep learning and NLP in identifying malicious activities: Assess how deep learning and natural language processing are applied to recognize patterns of malicious behavior, such as phishing, malware, and social engineering attacks.
4Evaluate challenges and ethical considerations in using AI for cybersecurity: Analyze potential issues related to the use of AI in cybersecurity, including biases in AI models, privacy concerns, and the ethical implications of automated decision-making.
