Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course will introduce students to historical forms of display and curation. Students will discuss the museum in our society, the different forms of display, and the role of the curator. The primary purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of how museums work as educational and political spaces, and the ways in which history, geography, cultural difference, and social hierarchies are mapped through exhibition practices.
Learning Outcomes1Discuss the field of curation including its history and contemporary issues.
2Analyze exhibitions and installations in modern museums.
3Debate the role of the museum in society, the different forms of display, and the role of the curator.
