Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course is designed to help students acculturate to and acquire a broad knowledge of social psychological research. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to: recent developments in social psychological theory, research, and methods; applying for academic jobs; how to present your program of research; networking at conferences; developing a website presence; and grant application preparation. Permission of instructor required.
Learning Outcomes1Apply critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and the scientific method to understand and interpret the key aspects of empirical research presentations and papers.
2Disseminate the results of theoretical and empirical work effectively to the professional community.
3Harness social psychological principles, theories, and findings to better understand current social and organizational problems.
4Have the requisite knowledge and skills to conduct their research in an ethically professional manner in accord with IRB policies and guidelines.
5Navigate professional settings and activities successfully, such as networking at professional conferences, preparing a compelling research statement and vita, developing a sophisticated website presence, and structuring research questions for grant applications.
