Spring 2026 LectureThe goal of this course is to provide students with a firm foundation in the basic logic of scientific research in the context of approaches taken in a variety of areas of plant science. An emphasis will be placed on the strengths and weaknesses of commonly used assays in a given field and how hypotheses are formed and tested using those methods. More broadly, the students will learn what questions are important and why, as well as what can and can't be effectively addressed with the available tools.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the scientific method. Students will understand how to form hypotheses, design experiments, and critically analyze results.
2Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental principles using written responses to specific questions covering a variety of plant science subdisciplines.
3Describe a research project in an oral presentation that can be readily understood by a general scientific audience.
