Spring 2026 Distance Learning Upper Division
This course focuses on understanding contemporary emerging technologies and their implications for tech diplomacy, national security, and foreign policy. Students develop skills through analyzing case studies and developing applied projects that assess threats and opportunities in an area of emerging technology.
Learning Outcomes1Explain and demonstrate research strategies for analyzing the strategic implications of emerging technologies for diplomacy, national security, and foreign policy.
2Apply theoretical frameworks and grounding in principles of tech diplomacy to evaluate real-world case studies to assess threats and opportunities in an area of emerging technology and develop forward-thinking strategies to address them.
3Assess and select strategies for communicating information about the implications of emerging technology with different types of audiences, including foreign and domestic officials, technical experts, media, and the public.
