Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionAn evidence-based, application-focused exploration of the continuum of healthy eating to eating disorders and the factors that influence body weight. This includes review of each eating disorder diagnosis from an interdisciplinary perspective with emphasis on the role of the registered dietitian nutritionist in prevention, identification, treatment, and recovery.
Learning Outcomes1Describe the prevalence of and relevant biological, environmental, social, and psychological factors associated with the development of overweight, obesity, and eating disorders.
2Identify the diagnostic characteristics of and understand tailored treatment interventions for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and avoidant/restrictive feeding intake disorder, as well as discuss other specified feeding and eating disorders presentation and treatment.
3Appreciate the role of the interdisciplinary support/treatment team and various levels of care in eating disorder support and treatment while developing knowledge and aptitude in a range of nutrition therapy interventions.
4Identify the benefits, potential risks, appropriate target population(s), and medical nutrition therapy components of diet-based, medication-based, and surgical weight management interventions.
5Understand and be able to apply mindful and intuitive eating and health at every size approach in patient/client care as a method of preventing disordered eating, weight stigma, and body negativity and to support wellbeing and recovery.
