Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThe purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of the psychological, behavioral, and social processes as related to and revealed through physiological principles and events underlying human movements in the context of sport and exercise. This course will utilize traditional lectures combined with student-led group discussions to examine topics including, but not limited to, the following: (1) introduction, principles, and measurements of psychophysiology, (2) psychophysiological characteristics of optimal mental state and superior performance, (3) biofeedback and neurofeedback training in performance enhancement, and (4) acute and chronic effects of sport and exercise participation on cognition and emotion.
Learning Outcomes1Describe and explain the study of psychophysiological processes that operate in the context of human movements in sport and exercise.
2Describe and explain the methods and theories in the study of sport and exercise psychophysiology.
3Evaluate major sport and exercise psychophysiology studies on topics such as enhancements in athletic performance, cognition, and emotion in terms of their methods, results, conclusions, and implications.
4Analyze and synthesize concepts and theories across topics, readings, and discussions.
5Communicate ideas in writing and group discussion in a clear, coherent, and logical style.
6Acquire the knowledge to apply psychophysiological principles within sport and exercise settings.
