Practical introduction to modern quantum field theory techniques as applied to the study of many-body phenomena occurring in solid state systems. Standard perturbative-theoretic results based on zero- and finite-temperature Green's functions, with application to specific physical situations. Introduction to nonperturbative methods. PHYS 645 and 646 are recommended. Prerequisites: PHYS 61700, 66000, 66100. Permission of instructor required.
