Fall 2025 Lecture Distance LearningThis course is designed for Ph.D. students in Engineering or other STEM fields, or working professionals with advanced degrees, who are considering a career as a tenure-track faculty member. It describes expectations of faculty members and provides students with opportunities to develop and practice some key skills required to meet those expectations. Permission of instructor required.
Learning Outcomes1State what is typically expected of an engineering faculty member and prepare a plan to develop the skills necessary to meet those expectations.
2Interpret a faculty position description and prepare tailored, well-written documents required for an application.
3Write a competitive research proposal and manage a resulting project.
4Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in an inclusive environment.
5Build and make efficient use of professional networks.
