Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThe focus of this course is to merge the application of leadership and management theory to various issues arising in Sport Management including organizational behavior, strategic planning, and human resources management. This course will utilize case studies based on true events and connect theoretical ideas with practical experience and outcomes. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes1Learn of and develop an understanding of the fundamental theories and principles of employee and organizational behavior in the context of sports by reading the assigned textbook chapters and related articles, listening to lectures, and fully engaging in all course materials and assignments.
2Identify and apply learned theories and approaches to address issues encountered by management in organizations by analyzing and problem-solving weekly case studies based on real-life examples in a variety of sports settings.
3Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices associated with organizational behavior in sports including leadership, organizational culture, and internal and external conflict.
4Using information learned in weekly case studies, and through the completion of individual personality assessments, gain a better understanding of individual leadership and work styles.
5Develop personal growth through a variety of assessment activities whereby students reflect on their own leadership style.
