Employment Law for Business is designed to help students navigate the complex legal challenges businesses face in employment. Students will explore key topics like defining the employment relationship, addressing discrimination and harassment, and managing technology and privacy issues in the workplace. Through real-world examples, students will learn about critical regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, FMLA, OSHA, and laws governing employee benefits. By the end of the course, students will develop the skills to approach employment law issues with confidence, applying legal, managerial, and ethical perspectives to solve problems effectively.

Learning Outcomes

1Analyze and apply legal principles and legislation to evaluate employment decisions in business scenarios.

2Explain and evaluate the legal protections and responsibilities of managers in various business contexts.

3Identify and assess the fundamental components of litigation and analyze the financial and reputational costs of HR law violations.

4Apply best practices in management, ethical frameworks, and legal mandates to resolve employment law issues effectively.

5Develop and apply communication, analytical, and logical reasoning skills through case studies and writing exercises, demonstrating proficiency in at least three key areas.

6Analyze the impact of public policy changes on legal frameworks, with examples of recent legislative shifts.
