Fall 2025 Instructors:

Given the needs of variety of needs of readers throughout the educational system, this class will focus on effective interventions from the primary grades through high school. Instructors will present a balance of theoretical and practitioner-oriented aspects of reading development and instruction. The course will also examine evidence-based science of reading approaches designed to ensure all students have access to effective, researched-based literacy instruction.

Learning Outcomes

1Establish an understanding of P-12 science of reading principles and practices.

2Develop an understanding of effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 reading instruction.

3Understand how to implement Tier 1 and Tier 2 reading practices in a classroom.

4Establish an understanding of reading difficulties/disabilities.

5Extend knowledge of unique needs of struggling readers.
