Fall 2025 Studio Lower DivisionThis course engages students in the art of the book as a creative practice. The course includes an introduction to book arts concepts, structures, bindings and methods of image making. Emphasis is placed on form and content relationships, construction, and artistic development.
Learning Outcomes1Create contemporary personal work with expressive and original ideas informed by the study of book artists and book arts concepts.
2Develop technical skills in book structures, binding, paper folding and surface treatment.
3Demonstrate skill in printmaking and mono-printing methods to create imagery and content.
4Design artwork using existing and innovative book structures with a focus on concept, form and content relationships.
5Create book art works utilizing multiple dimensions including surface (2D), space & form (3D), time & movement (4D).
6Evaluate and critique the work of self, peers, and contemporary book artists.
