Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThis class offers an overview of U.S. Latino/a literature, written in Spanish and English and produced in the United States. It will introduce students to the many and diverse experiences of different Latino/a groups through their literary production. Permission of instructor required.
Learning Outcomes1Gain a sense of the diversity of the Latino/a experience in the U.S. as well as the longevity and richness of the Latino/a literary tradition in the U.S.
2Become familiar with some of the major themes and trends in Latino/a literature.
3Consider the ways in which identities like - class, race, and gender - intersect with one another and are constructed in relation to one another.
4Learn how to close-read a literary or cultural object, such as a novel, a film, or a poem.
5Work on improving their writing and research skills through the development of an original research project dealing with Latino/a literature.
