Spring 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThe course combines experiential learning with a hands-on research project that unfolds over the course of a semester, serving as a culminating experience at the end of their degree program. The overarching objective of the capstone project is for students to understand how business problems can be addressed with empirical methods. This course is designed to help students develop a more comprehensive and integrative understanding of the major, apply their knowledge to develop and execute a methodologically rigorous research a project, and demonstrate their mastery of critical thinking and research skills they have acquired throughout their time in the major. In addition to a paper, completion of the research project may involve the presentation of the findings in a seminar or workshop setting.
Learning Outcomes1Complete a high quality research paper that applies Economic analysis to a topic of particular interest to the student.
2Develop a deep understanding of the roles that Economic theory and/or empirical analysis (Econometrics) play in creating high-quality economic analysis.
3Identify the economics literature (journals, books, monographs, etc.) that relates to the research topic considered.
