Spring 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionDepartmental CreditThe philosophy of cognitive science uses tools from philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, and computer science to answer foundational questions about how the mind works. In this course, we'll survey a range of contemporary debates in the philosophy of cognitive science, focusing on topics like the distinction between perception and cognition, the relationship between memory and imagination, the relationship between language and thought, whether there exist basic emotions and more.
Learning Outcomes1Compare and contrast the different theoretical frameworks for the study of cognition.
2Analyze contemporary debates in cognitive science.
3Evaluate implications of cognitive science for ordinary psychological concepts, such as belief, memory, perception, reasoning, and emotion.
