Spring 2025 Instructors:

This course offers a survey of Native American and Indigenous history and culture in the historic region encompassing the modern state of Indiana. The course opens in the pre-Columbian era and is organized chronologically to the present day.

Learning Outcomes

1Read, analyze, and synthesize archeological data and research through written analyses and discussions.

2Read, analyze, and synthesize primary historical documents and research through written analyses and discussions.

3Demonstrate increased knowledge and cultural awareness of the significance of Native Americans in Indiana's history through examination and written analyses.

4Critique both scholarly and popular accounts of the history of indigenous people in the region and state and express those ideas through oral presentations and classroom discussion.
