Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionA broad-based survey of human political attitudes and behavior and the forces that underlie them, utilizing contemporary research tools to examine and evaluate theoretical claims. Examines how people respond to information about politics, communicate about politics, form attitudes and preferences about politics, and their political interactions with other individuals, groups, and nations. Introduces survey research methodology, its uses, and its challenges in measuring political attitudes and behavior.
Learning Outcomes1Compare and contrast foundational and contemporary theories that explain political attitudes and behavior.
2Critically evaluate sources of information about public opinion and understand how to communicate, accurately, the results from survey research.
3Synthesize course knowledge to create a theoretically-grounded analysis of political attitudes or behavior using empirical data and appropriate research methods.
4Describe and explain to specialists and non-specialists the theories and empirical evidence of the causes and consequences of political attitudes and behavior.
