In the information age, we have witnessed a dramatic resurgence of paranoia and violence, fueled by the very technologies meant to provide access to knowledge and information. In this course, we will uncover conspiracies together, seeking to understand how such strange ideas originate and spread.

Learning Outcomes

1Apply theoretical frameworks to think critically about conspiracy theories within American culture.

2Respond critically, thoughtfully, and empathetically to the problematic of American conspiracism.

3Reflect on the impact of conspiracy theories on the American public sphere, families, and information ecosystems.

4Engage philosophical and critical debates about conspiracy theories from a range of disciplines.

5Recognize the various ways in which prominent social media platforms facilitate the spread of conspiracy theories.
