Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionJEDIThis course explores the role of gender (its discourse as well as its practice) in the emergence, consolidation, and centralization of European political systems from the Renaissance to the French Revolution, such as princely courts, republics and monarchies.
Learning Outcomes1Appraise the role of men, women, and gender discourse in the evolution of the main political systems of early modern Europe from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries.
2Evaluate the mechanisms and power structures that included or excluded early modern women and men in the political process.
3Apply the conceptual framework of gender and politics to a specific case study in 10-12-page analytical paper.
