Spring 2025 Lecture Distance LearningOverview of modern power system operations. Economic dispatch of assets as a constrained optimization problem, and solution methods. The unit commitment problem formulation, and solution methods. Power flow solution methods. Security-constrained economic dispatch and unit commitment. The optimal power flow. Automatic generation control. Operation of power markets. Prerequisites: ECE 43200. Co-Requisites: ECE 58000.
Learning Outcomes1Read and communicate the findings of the latest power system operations, control, and economics literature.
2Write software to perform various modern power system functions, such as: security-constrained economic dispatch and unit commitment, dc or ac power flow analysis, and optimal power flow.
3Appreciate the computational challenges related to large-scale electric power systems analysis.
