Fall 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionAnalysis of stresses and deflections due to complicated loading. Investigation of specific design problems through application of theory of elasticity, failure criteria, energy approach, and numerical methods. Individual design project.
Learning Outcomes1Understand complicated 3-D state of stress for both determinate and indeterminate problems.
2Learn advance theory of elasticity.
3Gain fundamental knowledge of bodies in contact.
4Solution methods for torsion of prismatic section and bending of asymmetric cross section.
5Apply energy method to solve problems for linear and nonlinear materials.
