Spring 2026 LectureAn examination of the different perspectives on issues of gender, culture, and science. Major topics include feminist critiques of scientific theories and methods, the work of women and minorities in science, the role science has played in the construction of race and gender, and topics in science education, such as girls' learning in science and the potential of inclusive practices in the science classroom. Prerequisite: EDCI 51800 or 58500.
Learning Outcomes1Develop an in-depth understanding of the role of gender and culture in science and science education.
2Examine feminist and cross-cultural studies in science and science education.
3Apply feminist and critical frameworks of analysis to various studies in science education.
4Identify and evaluate the strengths and limitations of feminist and cultural critiques of science.
5Synthesize related literature in an effort to gain in-depth knowledge about one or more areas of gender and culture in science and science education.
