Spring 2020 Lecture JEDIUpper DivisionSelective global survey of societies whose mode of subsistence is/was based on the collection of wild food resources. Topics to be covered include: the development and current state of theory, ecology, social organization, land use, demography, subsistence rights, and worldview.
Learning Outcomes1Explain the forager lifestyle and the range of variation that researchers continue to discover.
2Summarize the role that hunter-gatherer studies have played in the development of anthropological and biological inquiry and theory.
3Recognize why the hunter-gatherer lifestyle has persisted as a human adaptation for as long as it has and how knowledge derived from its study can help scientists understand humanity.
4Describe major issues faced by foragers and their descendants today.
