Spring 2023 Lecture Upper DivisionDevelopment of Spanish since the Ancient Latin period, taking into account influences of other cultures and languages; Spanish in relation to Latin and other Romance languages; basic principles of language change; language change underlying differences between American and Peninsular Spanish.
Learning Outcomes1Have a perspective of the evolution of Spanish and being able to identify the basic features of Spanish through its history, as well as understanding the influence of external influences in the evolution of the language.
2Understand the configuration of the different varieties of Spanish in the different areas (peninsular Spanish and Spanish in America).
3Read publications on general aspects of History of Spanish Language with critical sense and understanding basic problems of diachronic studies and basic principles of language change.
4Able to read, understand and linguistically analyze texts from all the stages of Spanish.
