Spring 2026 Lecture Laboratory Upper DivisionCreative experimentation, production, and analysis of promotional formats for merchandising of product in a retail setting. Study of the elements and principles of design and their application for promotion of retail merchandise and/or services.
Learning Outcomes1Possess a working knowledge of terminology used within visual merchandising (VM).
2Understand the importance of store image – exterior and interior - through visual presentation and demonstrate knowledge of how to create a successful image.
3Identify and understand the use of store interior physical elements, fixtures, props, and display systems.
4Recognize and effectively analyze visual presentations.
5Plan, design and install visual displays.
6Implement steps in display and store planning.
7Develop an awareness of the current state of the retail industry as it relates to the future, career possibilities and impact on VM.
