Spring 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionThis course is designed to help students who are participating in rotations based in London, Wales, Kenya or Colombia be prepared to practice upon arrival into your specified country. The course content will include intercultural learning, travel preparation and practice site knowledge. Permission of department and instructor permission required.
Learning Outcomes1Develop an understanding of local culture and the impact on patient care and travel in London/Colombia/Wales/Kenya.
2Recognize the patient care process in the setting (UK, Kenya, Colombia) and how this will be utilized to care for patients and provide pharmaceutical care.
3Identify the appropriate steps of the travel preparation process.
4Describe the four core competencies associated with intercultural learning.
5Recognize learning styles, communications styles and Hofstede's continua in the context of international experiences and pharmacy practice.
6Recognize conflict styles and how this may relate to working abroad.
7Recognize empathy, compassion, openness and their role in healthcare.
