Spring 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionAn examination of modern tools for the characterization, manipulation, and design of nucleic acids and proteins. Topics include DNA technology, recombinant proteins, bioinformatics, genetic modifications, gene expression and the interactions between nucleic acids and proteins.
Learning Outcomes1Understand basics of DNA technology: isolation, amplification, synthesis, sequencing, and cloning.
2Understand basics of recombinant protein: expressing in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, introducing mutations.
3Understand bioinformatics.
4Understand introducing genetic modifications to plants and animals and stem cells.
5Control gene expression and genome editing.
6Examine nucleic acid interactions and protein interactions, and their application in diagnosis.
