Spring 2025 Lecture(MA 61500) Finite element method for elliptic partial differential equations; weak formulation; finite-dimensional approximations; error bounds; algorithmic issues; solving sparse linear systems; finite element method for parabolic partial differential equations; backward difference and Crank-Nicolson time-stepping; introduction to finite difference methods for elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations; stability, consistency, and convergence; discrete maximum principles. Prerequisite: CS 51400, MA 52300.
