The goal of the course is to augment the students' knowledge about commonly used street drugs including: pharmacology and mechanisms of action; interactions and adverse effects; law enforcement and policing; available support and treatment for addiction, abuse, and misuse; and the role of pharmacists.

Learning Outcomes

1Explain the role of the pharmacist in the prevention, treatment, and recovery process of addiction/substance abuse.

2Discuss treatment agreements for controlled substance use.

3List signs and symptoms of addiction and toxicities associated with street drugs.

4Describe community-based programs designed to treat addicts.
