The course will explain why you might want to use Bayesian methods instead of frequentist methods (such as t-tests, ANOVA, or regression). We discuss the basic properties and methods of Bayesian analysis and have many activities to show how Bayesian analyses are used. Prerequisites: PSY 60000 and PSY 60100. Permission of department required.

Learning Outcomes

1Understand some challenges with traditional statistical analyses, especially optional stopping.

2Able to run various Bayesian analyses.

3Able to extract information from Bayesian-calculated posteriors.

4Able to set appropriate priors for their analyses.
