In this course, students will be introduced to many aspects of mathematics education, including pedagogies, professional organizations, standards, research, lesson planning, technology, etc. In addition, they will have opportunities to get to know others in their major earlier in their program.

Learning Outcomes

1Examine critically current pedagogical practices used in secondary mathematics classrooms.

2Explore alternative pedagogies to enhance student engagement and conceptions of the relevance of mathematics.

3Become familiar with technologies available for use in mathematics teaching and learning, mathematics education research, and professional organizations and standards.
