Course prepares students for teaching civics and government in powerful, exciting and innovative ways through a study of civics and political science concepts with the framework of inquiry design model (IDM) and an inquiry-based curriculum. Required for all Social Studies Education majors.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop knowledge of appropriate state and national civics and government standards.

2Use research and theory about how secondary students learn civics and government.

3Merge political science content and processes with pedagogy to forge pedagogical content knowledge.

4Plan standards-based powerful civics and government-oriented lessons.

5Utilize new understandings to draw conclusions about what constitutes powerful secondary civics and government teaching and learning.
