Spring 2025 Distance Learning Lecture Upper DivisionStudy of the etiology, pathogenesis, symptomology, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and injuries to the auditory system.
Learning Outcomes1Apply knowledge about the development of human anatomical and physiological systems generally to the development of the auditory system and ear specifically in order to describe relationships between pathologies across systems.
2Evaluate the effects on auditory function caused by environmental and hereditary factors that are related to systemic disease.
3Differentiate between genetic and non-genetic disorders that are related to congenital and delayed-onset hearing loss. Apply this knowledge to cattegorize disorders that are unique to children, unique to adults, and common to all ages.
4Justify the importance of Early Hearing Loss Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs using knowledge about risk indicators, adverse consequences of hearing loss, and the benefits of early detection.
