Spring 2026 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionAn introduction to speech sound disorders and developmental language disorders in children. Topics covered include typical speech and language development, characteristics of speech and language disorders, methods of evaluation, diagnosis, and principles of intervention.
Learning Outcomes1Describe stages of typical acquisition of speech and language skills and factors that influence their acquisition.
2Plan an assessment for a child suspected of presenting with a speech and/or language disorder.
3Analyze the results of the speech-language assessment to reach a diagnosis.
4Interpret the results of the speech-language assessment to select an appropriate treatment approach.
5Create appropriate short-term and long-term treatment goals, including relevant instructional objectives, for a child with a speech or a language disorder.
