Fall 2025 Instructors:

An introduction to the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the sensory and motor systems involved in speech and hearing. Topics covered include general neuroscience principles, methods for studying the nervous system, and neural mechanisms underlying speech and hearing. The course also introduces disordered systems and contemporary speech and auditory neuroscience research topics.

Learning Outcomes

1Demonstrate basic knowledge of neuroscience including general neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and cellular mechanisms.

2Identify critical neural structures and neurophysiology involved in hearing and speaking.

3Describe important neural mechanisms underlying auditory processing and speech production.

4Develop basic understanding of the neuroscience methods, communication disorders, and ongoing research topics in speech, language, and hearing sciences.
