Spring 2025 Lecture Upper Division
This course will provide the student with a conceptual background in the development of adipose tissue and its biological function with emphasis on the endocrine and immunologic aspects of the adipocyte. Differences between species will be emphasized where possible.
Learning Outcomes1Discuss the development ontogeny of adipose tissue formation.
2Discuss the role of adipose tissue in energy balance.
3Discuss the role of adipose tissue in the regulation of immune function.
4Understand the role of the extracellular matrix in adipose tissue in the regulation of adipocyte development.
5Have a better understanding of adipose tissue role in cancer susceptibility.
6Have a better understanding of the impact of phytochemicals in the regulation of obesity and adipocyte function.
