Basic anatomy, classification, and identification of mammals and birds. Identification deals with representative species from selected phylogenetic and geographic groupings in North America.
Learning Outcomes1Identify important North American mammal and bird species, with an emphasis on species of the Midwestern U.S.
2Be familiar with the ecology, natural history, and systematics of the mammals and birds.
3Describe the characteristic features of some of the important North American vertebrates, using a combination of preserved specimens, photographic images, field guides, and taxonomic keys.
