(ANSC 62700) Integration of biochemical and physiological functions of nutrients in humans and animals, emphasizing lipid metabolism and transport in the context of cardiovascular function. Offered weeks 9 - 16. Prerequisite: NUTR 60600.

Learning Outcomes

1Demonstrate knowledge of foundational scientific concepts.

2Comprehend, interpret and apply knowledge on biochemistry and physiology emphasizing lipids and antioxidants in the context of cardiovascular and immune systems and cancer.

3Develop knowledge, in depth, on important and current issues in nutrition.

4Develop knowledge of and learn to apply research methods used in nutrition, including biochemical and molecular analyses, preclinical and clinical study designs, and epidemiological approaches.

5Reinforce intellectual skills important to careers in nutrition and animal science, e.g., critical thinking skills, reading, discussing, and interpreting current scientific literature, scientific presentation skills.
